Distances and Destinations by Algis Kasparavičius explores the theme of identity and otherness, investigating the relationship between our expectations of ourselves and reality: the “destinations” are the goals we set for ourselves, while the “distances” indicate the obstacles that stand between us and our goals. In Kasparavičius’ installation, the wooden boards represent the personal quest that involuntarily turns into self-exile: the black shoes fixed to the boards remain motionless, unable and incapable of reaching their destination.
