Peter Sandbichler’s work Untitled, a bas-relief made of cardboard, stems from the artist’s passion for origami and the way it conceals and reveals space at the same time. Sandbichler, who folded a wall of cardboard boxes painted by Francis Ruyter, challenges our conception of surface, between illusion, ornament, and construction, resulting in an immaterial bas-relief. The work calls to mind the karst formations and steep hills of Trieste and therefore finds its ideal location in the Salone degli Incanti.
Peter Sandbichler (1964, Kufstein, lives and works in Vienna). Sandbichler’s practice moves between sculpture, object art and installations. He took part in the Venice Biennale in 1995 and has exhibited in various shows in Italy, Germany and Austria.
