Barnosa’s performative practice fuses Arabic calligraphy with other mixed media forms. In this series, Barnosa utilizes newsworthy photographs of her home country by writing over them with specific words that challenge the content underneath. She directly addresses issues pertaining to the political chaos, anarchy, and general disorder that have affected her community. Visitors are invited to take a copy of her prints, a physical reminder of the current state in Libya.
Takwa Barnosa was born in 1998 in Tripoli, Libya, where she lives and works. She has exhibited at the Galleria Davide Gallo (Milan) and the AWAN Arab Women Artists Now 2016 Festival (London). She is also interested in art management and curatorial practices. In 2015, she established the WaraQ Art Foundation, which supports young emerging artists in order to revive the art scene in Libya. She is included in the Imago Mundi Collection “Libya: Hurriya.”
