William Cobbing’s art practice incorporates a range of media, including photography, video, and installation, all with a sculptural sensibility. Clay features heavily in his work, and is often the basis for performative encounters that are both chaotic and intimate, blurring the boundaries between body and landscape.

In works newly commissioned for The Ground We Have in Common, Cobbing explores the role of the body – and especially the hands – as a tool to aid human intervention upon the land and as a way of expressing tactile intimacy.

William Cobbing (1974, London) lives and works in London. He has been exhibiting internationally since 2000, and recent shows include Cooke Latham Gallery, London (2019) and the École Française d’Athènes, organised by Whitechapel Gallery and NEON (2015). He has also curated a number of shows, including ERC Liverpool (2013) and Downstairs, Hereford, UK (2012). He is currently Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Art.
