Giovanni Fontana - Performance
The use of performance in visual poetry plays a particularly important role as it opens the work to the sound dimension. For some of the visual poets the poem is not complete until it is expressed aloud, declaimed, recited. Their works are like musical scores, which presuppose a sound performance. For these artists often the use of the voice has to do both with the meaning that the words convey and with the pure sonority of which they are composed.
