The Judgement addresses the globalization of the individual. Technological development has made it possible to reach out across the globe to present and market oneself. Simultaneously, this has resulted in a common and clichéd visual language, as well as a common aspiration to be happy, wealthy and carefree, with any form of dissent and discussion being rendered innocuous as it is played out in cyberspace. An integral part of this process is the scrutiny of the Other: the continual mechanism of judging through which we constantly rate ourselves and others to ascertain if we/they fit this global standard that we have created, based on narcissism, insecurity and fear.

Jarik Jongman (1962, Amsterdam). He studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Arnhem and has been assistant to Anselm Kiefer in 1995. As a starting point of his work, he uses both his own photographs and anonymous pictures found at flea markets, in books, magazines and on the Internet. A winner of the Luxembourg Art Prize in 2017, in his works over the years he has engaged with ideas concerning ontology, transience, religion and history.
