Julius von Bismarck: interview

Features #21 — July 2023

JULIUS VON BISMARCK IN CONVERSATION WITH NICOLAS VAMVOUKLIS

Hey Julius! In the last issue of FEATURES, I had fun with Laure Prouvost, using the Proust Questionnaire that supposedly reveals your true nature. I’d like to keep this conversation going and ask what is your current state of mind?
I’m annoyed, I’m relieved, I’m afraid, and I’m a little drunk.

What is your greatest extravagance?
I hope my ideas are.

What is your greatest fear?
Mediocrity and irrelevance.

If you were to die and come back as an object, what would it be?
Planet earth.

Who are your favourite writers?
Fiction writers? Stanisław Lem, Liu Cixin, Jules Verne and Martha Wells.

What is your most treasured possession?
Material possessions? It took me a while, as I really don’t care so much about material possessions. But I inherited a wooden ostrich sculpture that I really like. Also, I love some of my plants, but I don’t think you can possess a living thing.

What is your most marked characteristic?
I’m very dyslexic, very messy, and often quite insensitive. I can’t stand criticism, and I talk a lot.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I managed to trigger a lightning.

What do you most value in your friends?
They accept me for who I am and don’t judge me, but they still manage to criticize me in a way I can accept.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I would like to be a really talented dancer.
