Kurds, Yazidis: Exodus. Temporary Camps. Exile

The largest population in the world without a homeland – the Kurds – is approached through the participation of several Kurdish artists who tell episodes of the complicated history of their migration, both within the four countries that host Kurdish minorities – Türkiye, Iran, Iraq and Syria – and in neighbouring countries, or in the diaspora.

The exhibition gives voice to the recent history of the Yazidis, the most vulnerable Kurdish population for religious reasons, persecuted for centuries because of their beliefs, which combine elements of Zoroastrianism, Christianity and Islam.
According to the figures reported by the UN, thousands of Yazidis were killed and kidnapped by ISIS in 2014 when the terrorist organisation occupied the areas inhabited by this population in Iraq.
The participation of Kurdish artists in the project was made possible thanks to the collaboration with Erkan Özgen, a Turkish artist, and Ali Arkady, an Iraqi photographer, both of whom has experience working and documenting life in refugee camps.
